I’m so excited to be hosting an event for The AdopTEA again this year!
Join me at the Carindale Library to watch “You Should Be Grateful” ~ a powerful short documentary by Australian filmmaker Heather Waters that gives voice to adult adoptees and their lived experiences.
Through honest and moving personal stories, the film challenges common myths about adoption and explores its lasting impact on identity, family, and belonging.
This special screening is an opportunity for adoptees to come together, see their experiences reflected on screen, and join in meaningful conversation afterwards.
Following the film, director Heather Waters will host a Q&A session, giving you the chance to ask questions, share reflections, and engage directly with the filmmaker.
A scrumptious afternoon tea will be provided, giving you an opportunity to chat with other adopted people and share stories about your adoption journey.
The AdopTEA is a relaxed, informal gathering where adoptees can connect with one another, reflect on their experiences, and build peer support.
** Please note: this is not a counselling or therapy session. It is simply a chance for adoptees to connect with one another. We encourage everyone attending to be mindful of their own wellbeing and to have personal supports in place if needed.
Come along to connect, reflect, and share in a welcoming and supportive space during Queensland Mental Health Week.
The AdopTEA aims to increase awareness and understanding of the impacts of adoption on adopted people and reduce the stigma associated with reaching out and seeking support.
Just remember – you can get involved too… by hosting your own AdopTEA event during Mental Health month in October.
