This year, Durack State School is proudly celebrating Queensland Mental Health Week (QMHW) with a different theme each day, encouraging our students, staff, and community to focus on teamwork, wellbeing, self-care, and balance.
Daily Themes
- Teamwork Tuesday – building connections through collaboration and creativity.
- Wellbeing Wednesday (R U OK? Day) – recognising the importance of checking in on each other.
- Thoughtful Thursday – taking time for mindfulness and reflection.
- Finish on Time Friday (World Mental Health Day) – celebrating balance, nature, and rest.
Highlights of the Week
- Durack Dragon Walking Train: Held daily, encouraging movement and community connection.
- Collaborative Chain Art Project (Tuesday): Students work together to create a collective artwork symbolising unity.
- R U OK? Day (Wednesday 8 October): Staff and students are encouraged to wear yellow and take part in classroom activities, a special morning tea, and a Teachers vs. Students Volleyball Match in the school hall. A coffee van will also be available for staff.
- Mindfulness Tent (Thursday): A quiet space with mindfulness colouring, music, and sensory activities to promote calm and self-care.
- Boot Camp (Friday): A fun fitness session on the senior oval with circuits, games, and challenges to end the week with energy.
Staff & Community Involvement
- Staff Morning Tea (Wednesday): Hosted by the SWEET team to promote self-care and connection.
- One Foot Forward Challenge: Staff and community members are also supporting mental health fundraising by walking and logging kilometres for charity.
Closing Celebration
On Friday, the week will finish with drinks and food hosted by the Lions Club, celebrating the collective effort and spirit of the Durack SS community.
Together, these activities reinforce the message that mental health and wellbeing matter every day — and that by supporting one another, we grow stronger as a school community.
