Weaving Inside
Event Type
Date & Time
Weaving Inside is an open weaving session held with women in Townsville Women’s Prison, creating a culturally safe space for connection, reflection, and creative expression. This extended session will centre on mindfulness, cultural practice, and storytelling, supporting the social and emotional wellbeing of women inside. The act of weaving offers a gentle, grounding process that invites conversation, care, and building of community.
During this time, individual contributions will come together to form a vibrant, collective woven art piece: a symbol of strength, creativity, and shared experience. This collaborative work will be celebrated and up for display at the end of Queensland Mental Health Week, both for the women inside and for visitors to the prison.
The artwork will stand as a powerful expression of the importance of mental health and connection behind the prison walls, offering a moment of beauty, pride, and recognition for the women who contributed to it.
